The Power of the Whole.
Why is a human being “More Conscious” than a rock? Why is a sleeping person “Less Conscious” than someone who is awake? For a long time, we thought consciousness was a mysterious “Magic Dust” that some things had and others didn’t.
D5.2 uses Integrated Information Theory (Φ) to provide a better answer. It says that consciousness is not “Magic Dust”; it is Unity. A rock is just a pile of atoms that don’t talk to each other—it has low Φ. A brain is a massive network where every part is talking to every other part—it has high Φ.
It matters because it gives us a Consciousness Ruler. It allows us to measure the “Width” of an observer’s window. A higher Φ means a bigger, clearer, and more powerful witness of reality. This is the mathematical foundation for the Soul.
