Proving Sola Gratia (Grace Alone) via Entropy
The Problem: Can humans earn salvation through works? (Pelagianism/Arminianism) The Theophysical Proof: A closed system cannot decrease its own entropy (2nd Law of Thermodynamics). Sin is “Moral Entropy.” Therefore, self-salvation is physically impossible. Negentropy (Salvation) must come from an External Operator (Grace).

1. THE CLOSED SYSTEM PROBLEM
The Human Soul, left to itself, is a Closed System.
- Second Law: In a closed system, entropy ($\Delta S$) always increases.
- Translation: Without God, we get worse, not better. We decay.
- Works: “Works” are internal energy expenditures. Stirring a cup of dirty water doesn’t clean it; it just moves the dirt around.
2. THE EXTERNAL OPERATOR (GRACE)
To lower entropy (clean the water), you need:
- Open the System (Break the seal).
- Inject Order (Information/Energy) from Outside.
Grace ($\mathcal{G}$) is the injection of External Negentropy. It is the only force in the equation capable of making $\Delta S < 0$.
3. THE MATHEMATICAL IMPOSSIBILITY OF MERIT
If Salvation could be earned (Merit), it would mean the system generated its own Negentropy.
- Physics says: Impossible (Perpetual Motion Machine).
- Theology says: Impossible (Pelagian Heresy).
The physics and the theology agree perfectly. Salvation MUST be a gift. Not because God is arbitrary, but because Thermodynamics is absolute. Only the Creator (The Surroundings) has the infinite low-entropy capacity to absorb the creature’s high-entropy waste (Sin).
4. THE CROSS AS HEAT SINK
How does God remove our Entropy without violating Conservation Laws? He absorbs it. The Cross = The Universal Heat Sink. Christ took the “Heat” (Entropy/Death) of the system into Himself, allowing the “Cool” (Order/Life) to flow into us. It is a perfect thermodynamic exchange.

“Grace Alone” is not just a nice sentiment. It is the only solution to the Entropy Equation. Any theology that adds “Works” as a requirement is proposing a Perpetual Motion Machine.
