SEMANTIC ENTROPY

The Collapse of Language as Logos Degradation

Domain ID: LANG Status: IN DEVELOPMENT Axiom Dependencies: 1A (Epistemological Relativism), 2B (Semantic Necessity)

Ring 2 — Canonical Grounding

Ring 3 — Framework Connections

Domain Thesis

When words lose fixed definitions, the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) drops to zero. Society cannot coordinate, debate, or resolve conflict because nodes are no longer running the same protocol. This is the “Tower of Babel” effect - maximal linguistic entropy leading to dispersion.

Core Physics Concept: Protocol Failure

For a network to function, every node must agree on protocols (definitions).

  • If Node A defines “Justice” as Equality under Law
  • And Node B defines “Justice” as Revenge for History
  • The network crashes. No consensus is possible.

The Mechanism: When society adopted “reality is socially constructed,” words became fluid. This violated Axiom 2B (Semantic Necessity) - meaning requires fixed reference.

Evidence Requirements

1. Quantitative Data Needed

MetricSourceExpected Finding
Moral Term FrequencyGoogle Ngram (1900-2025)Decline in Duty, Honor, Virtue
Therapeutic Term RiseGoogle Ngram (1900-2025)Rise in Trauma, Validation, Self-Care
Dictionary RedefinitionsMerriam-Webster/OEDAcceleration post-1960
Contested TermsPolitical Science Data”Woman,” “Racism,” “Violence,” “Truth”

2. Qualitative Evidence Needed

  • Case studies of semantic capture (e.g., “marriage” redefinition)
  • Examples of communication breakdown across ideological lines
  • Historical comparison of definition stability (1900 vs 2025)

Axiom Mapping

AxiomHow Semantic Entropy Violates It
1A: Epistemological Relativism”Truth is constructed” → definitions are arbitrary
2B: Semantic NecessityData without fixed meaning = Noise
3A: Logos as BindingWords ARE the binding energy; destroy words, destroy bonds

Connection to Master Framework

Phase Transition Marker: When did “truth is relative” become mainstream?

  • Academic capture: 1960s (Postmodernism)
  • Popular adoption: 1990s (Political Correctness)
  • Full deployment: 2010s (Social Justice terminology)

Predicted Outcome: Communication collapse, tribal fragmentation, inability to resolve disputes through language (reversion to force).

“In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” - John 1:1

Destroy the Word, destroy the World.
