D — DEFINITION

Definition: A term lock that specifies precisely what a symbol or concept means.

Epistemological Role

  • Stipulative: Declares meaning by fiat
  • Non-negotiable: Once defined, term must be used consistently
  • Enables precision: Without definitions, arguments equivocate

Relationship to Canonical Documents

Definitions should be locked in Canonical documents (e.g., 00_Canonical/Consciousness.md).

When a term is defined, all other documents should link to that definition rather than redefine.

Definitions are not claims about reality — they are stipulations about language.
